  • There are two STEP examinations: STEP 2 and STEP 3. Students are usually required to sit either one or both of the examinations, depending on the requirements of the universities they have applied to.

    Please note: The deadline to apply for access arrangements is 18 April 2026.

    Your application must be supported by medical evidence, which should meet the following criteria:
    - be legible and either in English or in Spanish
    - be an original document on headed paper and bearing the name, relevant qualification(s) and signature of a recognised practitioner
    - give a clear statement of the candidate’s disability
    - make it clear how the disability justifies special arrangements.

    The medical evidence must be in the form of a report prepared in a period no more than two years before the test date.

    Please inform us as early as possible of any special requirements.

    STEP (Sixth term examination paper) is a well-established mathematics examination designed to test candidates on questions that are similar in style to undergraduate mathematics.

  • STEP Data Protection Notice

    By registering for the STEP (Sixth term examination paper), you agree that data provided as part of the entry or admission process may be passed to any institution involved in your university application and that the data may be anonymised and used for research purposes. You also agree that if you obtain a place on a course where STEP results form part of the admissions process, then your University may supply OCR with data about your application and results in subsequent assessments at that University, unless you specifically notify the University in writing. We store personal data securely and will ensure if candidate data is used in publications or research that it is used anonymously.

    If you -as a parent or legal guardian- receive this email, you should know that:

    • Candidates under the age of 11 will not be allowed to leave the exam premises at the end of the examination without parents or legal guardians being present at the exam venue.
    • Candidates between 11 and 17 years of age will be allowed to leave the premises, without their legal guardians present, at the end of the examination providing they bring a signed copy of the Minor Consent Form.
